A beautifully carved early wood passport mask from the Lega people of the DR Congo. Intended to protect the wearer, passport masks directly emulate larger, carved wood face masks. Characterized by soulful facial features, this passport mask exhibits excellent detail throughout with original pigment. To be worn as a pendant, 2 holes have been pierced on either side of the mask's forehead and an attachement of woven fibers was added.
This fine small mask is in very good overall condition including signs of use and age.
